GloHealth launches today, offering clearly better value to 2.1 million health insurance customers
02 July 2012GloHealth, a new Irish health insurance provider, launches today, offering customers better value by saving them money and providing extra benefits that they can tailor to their needs.
The new company has been established by a strong management team with substantial experience and expertise in health insurance in Ireland and with financial backing from Irish Life, Ireland’s leading life assurance and pensions company.
GloHealth will create 150 jobs within three to four years as the business expands, with 45 of these positions already filled. GloHealth’s policies are underwritten by Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC, a subsidiary of Munich Re, one of the world’s leading reinsurers which has an annual premium income of around €50 billion.
Jim Dowdall, Chief Executive of GloHealth said “Health insurance customers are crying out for a new approach and hard pressed families are looking for better value, better cover and better choice. GloHealth brings a much needed injection of innovation, customer focus and competition which will be welcomed by over two million health insurance customers. GloHealth is making a promise that everyone will get better value. With GloHealth you can pay less for your cover and get extra benefits tailored to your own particular needs.”
GloHealth has three core plans – simply named Good, Better and Best – making it easy for customers to select the cover they need.

While an individual on Aviva’s Level 2 Hospital can save €266 when they switch to GloHealth’s Best plan. A significant innovation being offered by GloHealth, which is unique to mainstream Irish health insurers, is the introduction of Hospital Cash Plans. These plans provide cash back towards a variety of daily health expenses (GP, dental, optical, etc.) as well cash to cover some hospital expenses. Starting from €15 per month for individuals and €20 per month for families, these plans will appeal both to those who already have health insurance but want more cover for daily expenses as well as to those who do not have health insurance or can no longer afford it.
Jim Dowdall concluded “The recently published Report on the Health Insurance Market by the Health Insurance Authority reinforced the impact which reduced disposable income and significant price increases has had on customers. Up to now, hard pressed families have been faced with having to consider dropping out of the market. From today, these customers have a great alternative option with GloHealth.
“GloHealth customers will get better value and better benefits from their health insurance cover. We invite customers to check us out at www.GloHealth.ie or ring us on 1890 744 744.”
