New ‘Foot In The Door’ website offers real job opportunities

23 February 2012

- 90 graduate jobs through InterTradeIreland programmes on offer throughout 2012 -

InterTradeIreland today (23 February) launched a new website specifically designed to help graduates from across the island secure high caliber jobs.   Through its successful technology transfer programme - FUSION, 60 positions will be on offer throughout 2012, with a further 30 export sales jobs coming online mid-year through InterTradeIreland’s  ACUMEN programme. The jobs are located across the island and are open to recent and past graduates, North and South.
The new website, www.footinthedoor.info will offer access to the latest job details, videos from past graduates on their experience and place to share knowledge and information with other graduates. The social hub within the website will also give current graduates and alumni the opportunity to further engage with one another, raise discussions and share best practice through a dedicated Facebook page.
The FUSION programme offers graduates the opportunity to work for some of the leading innovative companies across the island. They can fast track their career, lead an industry project in the Science, Technology or Engineering sectors, and develop skills with a fully funded Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice from the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business at UCD in Dublin.  Graduates are offered a real opportunity to significantly improve their career prospects coupled with an attractive salary and training package.
Margaret Hearty, Director of Business Services and Programmes at InterTradeIreland, believes that there is a real need to actively engage with graduates.  Speaking at the launch of the www.footinthedoor.info web portal, Margaret said: “InterTradeIreland offers skilled and experienced graduates unique career opportunities through our innovation & trade programmes.  Graduates get the opportunity to work with some of the most innovative companies on the island where they get the chance to manage a business project from start to finish, helping companies develop innovative and commercially viable products and services, whilst putting their own unique stamp on the roles.
“Despite the current economic uncertainty there are exciting opportunities available to graduates. We work with companies who want to employ graduates to help grow their business. Programmes such as FUSION bring skilled job seekers together with private sector companies from across the island of Ireland.  With its 72% retention figure of graduates going on to full-time employment with their host company, FUSION offers a real opportunity for graduate employment in the science, technology and engineering sectors. We would particularly welcome new applications from IT graduates, a sector which is providing significant and exciting opportunities at present. I would encourage anyone who is educated to diploma or degree level and is seeking employment at the moment to go online to www.footinthedoor.info for further information,” she added.

To date, 350 participants have graduated from the FUSION programme having gained valuable project management experience with their placement companies. Each InterTradeIreland FUSION project generates, on average, in excess of £1 million worth of sales and efficiency savings for the company as a result of cost savings, new product development, increased sales and process improvements.

Attending the launch to lend his support to the new website, www.footinthedoor.info, recent FUSION graduate, Jonathan McGovern from McAree Engineering, based in Monaghan, said:  “The FUSION programme has allowed me to get a much needed start in business and has proved invaluable to me in giving me on the job training and has subsequently led to a full time job.  The opportunity of the placement alone however was a great opportunity to dedicate myself to an innovative project and see it through from initial conception to completion with McAree Engineering. I also added a UCD diploma to my list of qualifications. I would certainly recommend the programme to anyone who is interested in working in science, engineering or technology and would definitely suggest checking out the website and Facebook page for more information.  It really could allow you to get your foot in the door with a company and kick start your career.”
